“What God Wants to
Know”
Several years ago, Bruce Larson wrote a
wonderful book called, What God Wants to Know: Finding Your Answers in
God’s Vital Questions. God is certainly always ready to hear our
concerns, but as we grow in faith we also need to grow in our ability to
listen to God. Many of these questions from scripture may seem quite simple,
but our answers will reveal a great deal about us and about our understanding
of God and Jesus.
Genesis
3:6-13 and John 3:16-21
We all have our favorite hiding places that we
run to when the going gets rough. Sometimes we even think we can hide from
God. This powerful story in Genesis tells us a great deal about the kind of
God we worship and God’s heart for justice and compassion.
Genesis
4:1-9 and Luke 10:25-37
What does it mean for us to be our “brother’s
keeper?” How do we move beyond our own self-centeredness to care for those in
need? Where is the balance in caring for others and caring for ourselves?

Genesis 21:8-21 and Matthew 8:5-13
Just when we think all is lost, God responds to our tears
with compassion and hope. God loves our children as much as we do, and longs
for them to be healthy and whole. What is troubling you? Perhaps it’s time
to pour your heart out to God too.
Mark
10:46-52 and Genesis 25:27-34
Jesus liked asking this question. He asked it
of James and John, who wanted seats of honor. He now asks it of Bartimaeus,
who could have requested wealth or prestige, rather than his sight. What is
it that we really want from Jesus? What values would our requests reflect?
